When ProCAT, an affiliate of CourtAudio, set out to create a new writer the goal was not to develop just another steno writer. The goal was to invent a portable realtime writer that defines the standards for others to follow. ProCAT Xpression lives up to that expectation.
Flash memory technology has been the cornerstone of every writer that ProCAT has built. Xpression uses three flash memory drives to ensure the integrity of the record. It has two processors to capture every keystroke and provide realtime translation services. It has an onboard Bluetooth connection, WiFi adapter, USB connector, Serial ports, color HVGA screen, an embedded audio recorder and playback ports.
Xpression is compatible with all popular CAT systems and it comes standard with a one-year warranty which, includes a loaner.
Operating system: | We live in a world that is dominated by Microsoft Windows. Windows is the dominant force in desktop and handheld computers. We have selected Windows CE to power the Xpression writer. The consistent look and feel of Windows desktop and CE operating systems help the user to become proficient more quickly. We had the option to use Linux operating system free of charge, but that would mean our clients would have to learn a very complex operating system.
Realtime Features: | Xpression is a full-featured realtime translation system. Consider these awesome features:
|
||||||
Memory: | Unlike the competitor, Xpression has always used solid-state memory to store user files. Solid state memory technology has proved to be more reliable and faster than a 3.5″ floppy diskette. Xpression has three storage devices to ensure reliable operation.

Display: | The display unit is a color HVGA, touch-sensitive LCD. You may use a Xpression to tap on the screen to perform various functions.
Communication Ports: | There are three communication ports in the Xpression that will address all possibilities:
|
||||||
Audio Recording and Playback: | Use the built-in audio recording port to synchronize the audio with translated text. Audio files will be stored on the primary CF drive.
Processors: | Xpression uses two microprocessors to eliminate stacking and to provide redundancy. The primary processor handles the realtime features while the secondary processor is used to monitor the health of your system and capture the keystrokes.
Weight: | The Xpression weighs only 5.25 lbs. It is by far the lightest writer on the market.
Battery: | It uses Lithium Ion technology to ensure the longest uninterrupted operation. Learn more.
Carrying Case: | Xpression comes with a soft-sided carrying case. Optional professional Samsonite and Wheelie cases are also available.
Realtime Protocol: | Xpression uses the same realtime protocol as Flash, Stenopaq, and ProWriter. This protocol has been optimized to offer the fastest realtime translation. Unlike the competition’s polled protocol, Xpression and Flash use an instant data transmission. Xpression is compatible with any software that works with Flash.
Storage Format: | The memory cards are formatted in a “PC” readable format. Therefore, you can use the PC-Card slot in your
Colors: | Xpression is available in Tuxedo, Latte, and Azure.
